This event was held last February 24, a bill has been validated by the French government about the legalization of gambling on the internet. Following this, about 25,000 sites offering online games will be penalized. For this reason National Assembly decided to reopen the file in question during the last week of March. No major changes are planned. However, some lines will be added: sites with no license for gambling and for a French audience will be removed from search engines and in many directories. More than 25,000 sites will be in the spotlight.
The battle promises to be important to get one of hundreds available licenses in France, many other sites will be in the eyes of government, illegal. This is the first time that search engines have strict rules on the part of a nation. Note that France is the only country to implement such restrictions in relation to the market opening.
All applications and the deletion of certain sites will be supported by the High Court. The different internet providers have a lot of work because they must take responsibility for stopping illegal sites. The sum for a license, coveted, is high. It will take between 50,000 and 200,000 euros for a site to become “legal” from a French point of view. A bill that would exclude small sites.
We look forward to the implementation of this project, ie July / August 2010. A big change is going to revolutionize the world of gambling online in France. The competition is raging, we think especially the big names in the area: Unibet, Bwin 888 or more.
